How to translate

Create questionnaire

  • Other translations offer substitutions for the Original

  2. Provide translations
  3. Upload translation file

  • New translation. Name that will appear in Designer/Interviewer
  • Questionnaire_name. Name of the questionnaire

Provide translations

Note

  • If translation is provided, it will be used
  • If not provided, text from Original used intead

Upload translation file

  • Open translation tab
  • Upload file
  • React to any messages (e.g., fewer than expected translations)

How interviewers experience translations

  • When interview opened, default language displayed
  • When select translation, language in questionnaire changes

Choose the main language

  • Original chosen by default
  • Choose another language if desired
    • Hover over language
    • Click on MARK AS DEFAULT LANGUAGE

How to manage translations

Basic workflow

  1. Create one template per target translation
  2. Send spreadsheet to translator
  3. Provide instructions on what not to change
  4. Import completed translation

Better workflow

  1. Download translation template
  2. Create one column per target language
  3. Upload spreadsheet to file sharing service (e.g., Google Drive, Microsoft 365, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.)
  4. Provide translators access to edit that document
  5. Provide comments and track status
  6. Convert into one translation file per target language
  7. Import completed translation
